Getting StartedYour First Entry

Your First Entry

This page walks you through creating your first reflection in Reflecto, explains the Write page interface, and introduces the six entry types.

The Write Page

After signing in you land on the Write page. Here is what you will see:

  • Date header — today’s date in a large serif display, with a day-of-week label
  • Save indicator — a cloud icon that shows “Saving…” or a checkmark when saved
  • Star button — marks the entry as important for easy filtering later
  • Type selector — dropdown to switch between Journal, Dreams, Highlights, Ideas, Wisdom, and Notes
  • Metadata controls — category, mood, or type-specific fields depending on the entry type
  • Editor area — the main writing space, powered by TipTap

Create Your First Entry

Click in the editor and start typing

The editor auto-focuses when the page loads. Type anything — a few sentences about your day, a quick thought, a goal.

Choose an entry type (optional)

By default you are writing a Journal entry. Use the type dropdown above the editor to switch. Each type has its own metadata fields.

Add tags and people (optional)

Type # to create a tag (e.g. #work, #gratitude) or @ to mention a person (e.g. @Alice). A suggestion dropdown appears as you type, showing existing tags or people. Select one or keep typing to create a new one.

Let auto-save do its job

Reflecto saves automatically 3 seconds after you stop typing. Watch the cloud icon in the header change from “Saving…” to a checkmark.

There is no save button. Your entry is continuously backed up as you write. You can also press Ctrl/Cmd + S to force an immediate save.

Entry Types at a Glance

Journal — daily reflections and logs.

Metadata: Category (Thoughts, Gratitude, Reflections, Daily Log, Venting, and more) and Mood (1-5 scale).

Default entry type. Supports bulleted mode for quick list-style entries.

Toolbar Quick Reference

When you select text, a floating toolbar appears. You can also use these keyboard shortcuts:

ShortcutAction
Ctrl/Cmd + BBold
Ctrl/Cmd + IItalic
Ctrl/Cmd + UUnderline
Ctrl/Cmd + KInsert link
Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + 8Bullet list
Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + 7Numbered list
Ctrl/Cmd + ZUndo
Ctrl/Cmd + YRedo

The editor also supports markdown shortcuts — type # for a heading, - for a bullet, **text** for bold, and > for a blockquote. Shortcuts trigger when you press Space or Enter after the pattern.

Bulleted Mode

Click the bullet icon in the header to enable Bulleted Mode. Every new line becomes a bullet point and a count (e.g. #12) appears in the header. This is ideal for daily logs and gratitude lists.

Viewing Your Entry

Once saved, your entry appears in several places:

  • Journal — navigate by calendar to today’s date
  • Reflect — see it in the timeline of recent entries
  • Workspace pages — if you wrote a Dream, check the Dreams page; Highlights appear on the Highlights page, and so on

Click any entry from these pages to reopen it in the editor.

Tips

  • Write every day, even a single bullet. Consistency builds streaks and gives Insights meaningful data.
  • Use tags liberally. Tags connect entries across dates and types. Recurring themes become visible over time.
  • Star entries that matter. Starred entries are easy to filter and revisit later.
  • Try different types. A quick Note today, a Dream tomorrow, a Highlight on the weekend — variety keeps reflection fresh.
