Editor Preferences

Fine-tune how the Reflecto editor responds to your input. These settings control list behavior, spellcheck, keyboard handling, autocomplete, and visual highlighting, plus notifications and reminders.

Bulleted Mode

Setting: Bulleted Mode (default: on)

When enabled, new lines in the editor automatically start as bullet points. A bullet count displays in the editor header (e.g., #15). Ideal for daily logs, gratitude lists, and quick-capture entries.

Turn it off if you prefer plain paragraphs for long-form prose, dream journals, or narrative entries.

You can toggle bulleted mode per-entry using the bullet icon in the editor header, regardless of the global default. This setting controls what new entries start with.

Spell Checking

Setting: Spell Checking (default: on)

Enables your browser’s built-in spellcheck in the editor. Misspelled words appear underlined and right-clicking offers suggestions.

Turn it off if you write in multiple languages or use many proper nouns and hashtags that trigger false positives.

The dictionary and suggestion quality depend on your browser and OS, not Reflecto.

Enter Key Behavior

Setting: New Line on Enter (default: off)

SettingEnterShift+Enter
Off (default)Submits or confirmsCreates a new line
OnCreates a new lineSubmits or confirms

In bulleted mode, Enter always creates a new bullet point regardless of this setting. This preference applies to non-bulleted content.

Autocomplete

Setting: Autocomplete (default: on)

Enables the suggestion dropdown when you type @ (people) or # (tags). Use arrow keys to navigate suggestions and Enter to select. A “Create new” option appears at the bottom for items that do not exist yet.

With autocomplete off, no dropdown appears, but @mentions and #tags are still extracted when you save. The setting only controls the popup.

Bullet Timestamps

Setting: Bullet Timestamps (default: off)

When enabled, each bullet point displays a small timestamp showing when it was written:

[9:15 AM] Morning standup with @Alice [9:42 AM] Reviewed #project-alpha pull requests [11:30 AM] Deep work session on #design

Useful for detailed daily logs where timing matters, meeting notes spanning a full day, or tracking when specific thoughts occurred.

Highlight Tags and Mentions

Setting: Highlight Tags and Mentions (default: on)

Controls whether #tags and @mentions receive visual highlighting in the editor.

  • On: Tags and mentions display with a distinct background color, making them easy to spot in longer entries.
  • Off: They appear as plain text. Still extracted on save — only the visual emphasis is removed.

Notifications

Setting: Enable Notifications (default: on)

Controls whether Reflecto can send browser push notifications.

Enable the toggle in Settings

Grant browser permission when prompted

Receive notifications for reminders and activity

If you previously denied the browser notification prompt, reset permissions in your browser settings before enabling this toggle.

Daily Reminder

Setting: Daily Reminder (default: off)

Sends a daily notification reminding you to write. Requires notifications to be enabled first.

  • Delivered once per day
  • Helps build a consistent writing habit
  • Especially useful during your first few weeks of journaling

Pair the daily reminder with a writing streak goal. Check your streak on the Insights page to track consistency.
